Big White Racers return from BC Games

The top K1 ski racers (born in 1993 and 1994) assembled at Red Mountain in Rossland from February 23-26 for the Greater Trail 2006 BC Winter Games. 8 boys and 8 girls represented the Thompson-Okanagan Zone in Alpine Skiing– 3 of the girls and 5 of the boys were from the Big White Racers Club in Kelowna. Alexander Norman, Mark Manton, Michael Kyjonka, Devin Spence, Hannah Vandenberg, Colin Burns, Alexandria Pankratz and coach Trevor Haaheim represented the Big White Racers
3 events took place: Slalom, Giant Slalom and a “Skills” event which consisted of a dual giant slalom race.
The Okanagan Zone took home Bronze medals for their performance in the dual giant slalom race, a team event that measured the best average times of each team. Individual Results are as follows: Twyla Spittle raced to a 5th place in the GS, and 4th in the Slalom at the BC Winter Games, held recently at Red Mountain. Alexandria Pankratz was 8th and 21st, and Hannah Vandenberg 12th and 21st.

On the boys side, Devin Spence was 8th in the Slalom, and 31st in the GS. Michael Kyjonka was 11th and 16th, Alexander Norman 16th and 15th, and Mark Manton 23rd in the GS and DSQ in the slalom. Colin Burns skied fast, but had a DNF, and a DSQ.
